There are several theories about the origin of the name forró. One popular theory claims that the name comes from the English term "for all", which was used by British engineers working on the railways in the late 19th century. They organized dance nights "for all", which was then adopted by the locals as a term for dancing and music. Another theory claims that the name comes from the African word forrobodó, meaning a boisterous party or festival. It can be reported in pairs or solo.
